Heritage Open Days at Canterbury Cathedral
Free guided tours and exhibitions at Canterbury Cathedral as part of England's largest heritage festival, 11-20 September 2026.
11-20 September 2026 · Canterbury Cathedral, 11 The Precincts, Canterbury CT1 2EH
Heritage Open Days is England's largest heritage festival, with thousands of organisations across the country opening their doors for free over ten days each September. The 2026 dates are Friday 11 to Sunday 20 September.
Canterbury Cathedral takes part with three complimentary events: a "Lives of the Monks" guided tour, a "Cathedral Gardens Through History" exhibition and a "Monastic Gardens" guided tour. Places are free but limited and book up fast.
This is a quieter demand bump than the Cathedral's ticketed events, but it draws heritage-minded visitors into the city over a full ten-day window, right alongside the Whitstable Oyster Festival weekend on the coast. Worth knowing about if you take short breaks in September.
Staying in Canterbury for this?
If you own a property here, this kind of demand is exactly what a well-managed listing is built for.
